The story of the Frelih Winery started in 1892, when Jo\u017eef Frelih bought a derelict old vineyard near \u0160entrupert, and invested in this venture a lot of love and winemaking expertise that he had brought with him form his native town of Vipava. His son Josip and later Josip’s son Peter continued his legacy with equal drive. Today, Frelih Winery is widely recognised for its top quality still and sparkling wines, and is run by two Veronikas: Late Peter Frelih’s wife and their daughter.<\/p>\n

The love and passion for winemaking, passed on for generations, gave birth to the idea for Cvi\u010dek od Fare (or Jolly Good Cvi\u010dek, as it would be called in English), first introduced by Josip Frelih more than three decades ago. It was with this wine that Cvi\u010dek, until then a widely neglected eccentric among wines, finally received the recognition and reputation that such enjoyable and refreshing wine deserves.<\/p>\n

In his monumental work the Glory of the Duchy of Carniola (1689), Slovene polyhistor Janez Vajkard Valvasor described \u0160entrupert as the warmest settlement in Carniola. Today, the favourable climate and excellent aspect of Zadraga vineyard above \u0160entrupert, combined with the expertise that has been passed on through generations of Frelih winemakers, guarantee the finest wine experience.<\/p>\n
